Maui County asks people to avoid flushing

Advertiser Staff

Maui County is urging people to refrain from flushing toilets and to limit their water use because of the tsunam that’s expected.

The county’s Civil Defense agency issued the request earlier today, noting that at 8:30 a.m. that certain wastewater pumping stations were being shutdown. It said the restriction could remain in place for hours based on assessments.
Maui County Civil Defense also has closed down a number of roads in anticipation of the tsunami.
The road closures began at 9 a.m., with more being closed an hour later. The county also has closed all of its beach parts and shut down its bus service, according to a tsunami update posted on the Maui County Civil Defense Web site.
