CLEVELAND ó A person familiar with the hiring tells The Associated Press the Cleveland Browns have picked Philadelphia Eagles general manager Tom Heckert to be their new GM.
The person spoke Sunday on the condition of anonymity because the details of Heckertís contract have not been finalized. He could join the team as early as Monday.
The Browns have been without a GM since George Kokinis was fired in November.
Clevelandís front office is being reorganized under new president Mike Holmgren. Heckert interviewed last week, two days before Holmgren announced he was bringing coach Eric Mangini back for a second season.
The 42-year-old Heckert has been the Eaglesí GM since 2006. His father, Tom, worked as a scout with the Browns in the 1980s.
