House fire, set by burglar, to be investigated by police

Advertiser Staff

A Pacific Heights house fire was intentionally set to cover up a burglary, and fire investigators have turned the case over to the Honolulu Police Department.

The fire early yesterday morning caused $50,000 damage to the structure and $5,000 in property damage and was confined to one bedroom in the 2,200-square foot, single-family home. But smoke caused extensive damage to the main upper level of the house, according to Honolulu Fire Capt. Robert Main.

Eighteen Honolulu firefighters from three companies responded to the blaze at 2740 Pacific Heights Road at 3:29 a.m. and found a neighbor fighting the fire with a garden hose, Main said.

No one was home, and there were no reported injuries nor evacuations of nearby homes, Main said.
