Stanford men easily sweep UH in volleyball

Led by Iolani athletes Brad Lawson and Kawika Shoji, the No. 3-ranked Stanford Cardinal cruised to victory over No. 8 Hawaii in a men's volleyball match Friday at Stanford, Calif.

The scores were 30-15, 30-21, 30-18.
Stanford is 1-0 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation and UH is 2-2. The teams play again Saturday.
Lawson had 13 kills while Shoji had 37 assists. Another Hawaii athlete, Punahou alum Spencer McLachlin, added seven kills. Stanford also features Punahou alum Erik Shoji, Kawika's younger brother, and Kamehameha alum Jordan Inafuku.
Stanford held UH to an .113 hitting percentage.
UH's Jonas Umlauft had 11 kills but 10 errors for a hitting percentage of .032.
Player of the week Joshua Walker had six kills, seven errors and hit .044.
Steven Hunt had eight kills, hitting .462, while Matt Rawson had seven kills, hitting .545.
