King Day event a chance to donate to Haiti relief efforts

Advertiser Staff

Organizers of today's annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day bell-ringing ceremony at the Honolulu Civic Center have dedicated the event to Haiti earthquake victims.

Representatives of the American Red Cross will be at the event to accept donations for Haiti relief efforts.

The ceremony will be at 5:30 p.m. at the Nagasaki Peace Bell, on the east side of the Kalanimoku Building.

The event is sponsored by the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day Coalition-Hawai'i and the United Nations Association-Hawaii Division.

This year's observance is being held on King's birthday, Jan. 15. Previous King Day bell-ringing events were held on the Sunday before the King holiday.
