Sailing: BMW Oracle claims bias over America's Cup rules

Associated Press

VALENCIA, Spain — BMW Oracle says Alinghi is "hell-bent" on changing the rules for their America's Cup showdown.

The American team has asked the America's Cup international jury to "negotiate or revise" the rules for the best-of-three series, which is set for Feb. 8 in Valencia.

BMW Oracle says the rules are "riddled with errors" and "heavily biased." The challenger says the Swiss team is "hell-bent on making the America's Cup the Alinghi Cup."

The start date is in doubt with BMW Oracle challenging the construction of Alinghi's sails in a New York court.

Negotiations between the teams over the race rules broke down last week.
