MLB: AP sources: Yankees, Winn trying to reach deal

By RONALD BLUM
AP Sports Writer

NEW YORK People familiar with the negotiations tell The Associated Press that the New York Yankees and free agent outfielder Randy Winn are trying to reach a deal, which would all-but-eliminate any chance Johnny Damon has of returning to the World Series champions.

The people spoke on condition of anonymity Wednesday because a final agreement was not in place. The agreement would be for about $2 million, one of the people said.
Winn hit .262 with two homers and 51 RBIs for the San Francisco Giants last year. The 35-year-old was an All-Star in 2002, when he batted .298 with 14 homers and 75 RBIs for Tampa Bay.
