NFL: Cardinals confirm Kurt Warner Friday news conference

Associated Press

TEMPE, Ariz. — The Arizona Cardinals and Kurt Warner have scheduled a news conference for 1 p.m. MST on Friday amid widespread speculation that the 38-year-old quarterback will announce his retirement from football.

The news conference first was announced by Warner's agent, Mark Bartelstein, on Wednesday and was confirmed, with details, in a Cardinals news release today.

It will be held in the team's training center auditorium, a facility used for major announcements.

Neither the Cardinals nor Bartelstein would say what Warner has decided, but such elaborate plans were unlikely if Warner was to announce he was returning.

The former league and Super Bowl MVP has one year and $11.5 million left on the two-year contract he signed after the 2008 season. The total includes $7.5 million in a deferred signing bonus, and it's not known whether that money still will be paid if he leaves the game.
