No. 2 Kim falls in Honolulu quarters
Fifth-seeded Kevin Anderson of South Africa upset second-seeded Kevin Kim, of California, 4-6, 6-3, 6-0 yesterday to advance to the semifinals of the Honolulu Challenge, a $50,000 USTA Pro Circuit event at the Patsy T. Mink Central O'ahu Regional Park.
Anderson will play unseeded Grega Zemija of Slovenia in one of two semifinals starting today at 11 a.m. Zemija beat Lester Cook, of California 7-5, 6-1.
"I had a lot of confidence coming into the match," said Anderson, who is 3-0 against Kim and ranked 148th in the world. "I haven't played him for a year and a half, so it definitely took me a few games to get used to playing his style of tennis."
Top-seeded Michael Russel, of Texas, advance to the semifinals with a 4-6, 7-5, 6-3 victory over eighth-seeded Ryan Sweeting, of Florida.
The last quarterfinal match between fourth-seeded Robert Kendrick, of Florida, and unseeded Donald Young, of Georgia, will be played this morning with the winner to play Russell in the semifinals at 11 a.m.

KAUFMAN FINISHES ATOP HIGH JUMP
Hawai'i senior Amber Kaufman led a 1-2-3 finish in the high jump yesterday at the Lobo Challenge, hosted by New Mexico at the Albuquerque Convention Center in Albuquerque, N.M.
Kaufman won the event with a jump of 6 feet, 3 1/4 inches, followed by Rainbow teammates Samantha Balentine and Sarah Saddleton at 5-6.
Kaufman surpassed the NCAA automatic qualifying mark and is tied for the highest in the country this season.
Rainbow Wahine Emma MacCorquodale won the weigh throw at 53 feet, 11 1/4 inches.
Hawai'i will compete in the New Mexico Invitational today at the Convention Center.

BYUH MEN STOP CHAMINADE, 80-71
Anthony Reilly and Lucas Alves each scored 15 points, helping Brigham Young-Hawai'i hold off Chaminade, 80-74, last night in a Pacific West Conference game at McCabe Gym.
Marques Whippy added 14 points and 14 rebounds for the Seasiders (9-3, 2-3).
Steven Bennett scored 19 points to lead the Silverswords (9-5, 2-3). Shane Hanson and Matt Cousins each contributed 17 points and Waly Coulibaly added 10 for Chaminade.
BYUH WOMEN TIP CHAMINADE, 54-51
Richelle Fenenbock had 24 points and nine rebounds, leading BYU-Hawai'i to a 54-51 Pacific West Conference victory over Chaminade last night at McCabe Gym.
BYUH improved to 5-10 and 1-4.
Samantha Saito scored 15 points and Megan Kamehiro added 10 to lead the Silverswords (1-12, 0-5).
