Virginia wins in Miss America pageant

Miss Virginia Caressa Cameron won the 2010 Miss America title last night after strutting in a yellow dress, belting Beyoncé's "Listen" from "Dreamgirls" and telling kids they should get outside more often.
Cameron, a 22-year-old from Fredericksburg, Va., won a $50,000 scholarship and the crown in a Las Vegas pageant that started with 53 contestants.
Cameron is a broadcast journalism student at Virginia Commonwealth University, and wants to become a news anchor. When asked in the interview portion of the pageant her thoughts on fighting childhood obesity, Cameron said parents should curb TV and video games.
Miss California Kristy Cavinder was the first runner-up in the pageant at The Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino.
Miss Hawaii Raeceen Anuenue Woolford was among the 10 finalists. The University of Hawai'i athletics Web site reported last night that Woolford, a former Wahine volleyball player, was chosen Miss Congeniality.
BUSH SENIOR DROPS BY WHITE HOUSE
Former President George H.W. Bush paid a social call on President Obama at the White House yesterday.
The former president, 85, walked gingerly into the White House, using a cane, as heavy snow fell. He departed 35 minutes later, telling reporters it was a "good meeting, good meeting." His son Jeb, a former governor of Florida, was with him.
White House aides said the former president was in Washington for a dinner.
RIP TORN CHARGED IN BANK BURGLARY
Actor Rip Torn has been charged with breaking into a Connecticut bank and carrying a loaded handgun while intoxicated.
State police say the 78-year-old Salisbury resident was arrested Friday night when police found him inside the Litchfield Bancorp with a loaded revolver.
The "Men in Black" actor was being held on $100,000 bond and is to appear in court tomorrow on charges that include burglary.
GETAWAY CAR KILLS 'FOG OF WAR' EDITOR
An award-winning film editor who worked on many of Errol Morris' documentaries, including "The Fog of War," was struck and killed by a getaway car speeding away from a Manhattan drugstore robbery, police and her mother said yesterday.
Karen Schmeer was crossing Broadway at West 90th Street on Friday when she was struck by a car driven by two suspects in the theft of over-the-counter medication from a CVS drugstore a few blocks away, police said.
