Koloa Rum wins gold at global festival
Koloa Rum Co.'s Kauai Dark Rum received a gold medal in the Rum Renaissance Festival last month in Miami.
The Līhu'e-based company won the medal in the dark rum category at the May 5-9 event that featured 100 rums from around the world.
A panel of international rum experts conducted blind tastings and evaluations of rum in eight major categories, according to a news release from Koloa.
"Having received multiple awards in two consecutive rum competitions is a tremendous honor and reflects the expertise, dedication and hard work of our employees and their relentless efforts to produce premium products that consistently exceed our customer's high expectations," said Bob Gunter, Koloa Rum Co. president.
CONSOLIDATED UNVEILING ENHANCED 3-D
Consolidated Theatres said it will launch a new big-screen format called "Titan Extreme Cinema" at its Ward Stadium 16 location later this month.
The format, which features a 66-foot-wide screen, enhanced 3-D effects and a 75,000-watt digital sound system, will debut June 18 with the release of Disney/Pixar's Toy Story 3 in 3-D.
The XpanD 3-D system used in Titan Extreme Cinema uses active 3-D glasses that allow the lenses to open and close in synchronization with the shutters on the digital projection system and read an infrared signal reflected off the screen to achieve superior 3-D images, according to Consolidated.
