Waimea boy dies of injuries suffered in fall from golf cart

Hawaii County police say a 14-year-old Waimea boy died Thursday of injuries sustained in a golf cart crash on May 31.
The boy was identified as Bronson D. Derego.
Police say Derego was riding in the back of a golf cart driven by a 15-year-old girl on Mana Road and that he fell when the cart turned into a driveway. Derego struck his head on the pavement.
He was taken to North Hawaii Community Hospital and later transferred to The Queen's Medical Center on Oahu.
Police are still investigating the crash.
Derego is the 17th traffic fatality on the Big Island this year, compared with 11 at the same time last year.
