North Shore drivers should expect delays for next two weeks

Advertiser Staff

North Shore drivers should expect delays on Wilikina Drive and Kaukonahua Road over the next two weeks because of road work by the Army.

The Army is building an alternative route for military vehicles to travel from Schofield Barracks to Helemano Military Reservation and the Kahuku Training Area. The work is designed to minimize Army travel on public roads.
Wilikina Drive will be closed in both directions from the intersection of Kamananui Road to Kaukonahua Road from 1 a.m. Monday through 5 p.m. Friday.
Drivers are urged to use Kaukonahua Road or Kamehameha Highway as alternate routes.
Kaukonahua Road then will be closed in both directions from the intersection of Kamananui Road to Wilikina Drive from 1 a.m. March 8 through 5 p.m. March 12.
Drivers are then urged to use Wilikina Drive or Kamehameha Highway as alternate routes.
During the road closures, workers will strengthen the road surfaces where military vehicles cross three locations along Wilikina Drive, Kaukonahua Road and Kamehameha Highway.
The Army encourages riders to carpool and said drivers should expect delays between the North Shore and Wahiawa areas, especially during morning and evening commuting hours.
