Sirens tested again today on Oahu

Advertiser Staff

This is only a test.
City and state officials are testing outdoor siren warning systems on Oçahu today from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. in Windward and North Shore areas.

The sirens are being tested at:
• Aikahi Park, Kailua
• Ahupua'a o Kahana State Park, Kahana
• Castle High School, Kaneohe
• Puiki Street at Waialua Beach Road, Waialua
• Swanzy Beach Park, Kaaawa
The city Departments of Emergency Management and Facility Maintenance in conjunction with state Civil Defense are testing to ensure that these sirens are operating at full power and providing optimal range. A number of sirens malfunctioned or were too quiet in some communities to be heard clearly during Saturday’s tsunami alert.
Residents and businesses in the surrounding communities may hear several 20-second siren soundings during the testing periods.
Hawaii State Civil Defense pays for the purchase and installation of these sirens. Once installed they are released to the city for monthly testing and emergency activation.
