Kuroiwa, Sawada capture 4-ball title Rolfing's new show takes global scope
Ryan Kuroiwa and Jared Sawada won the third annual Hawai'i State Golf Association 4-Ball Championship Sunday. They had seven birdies after opening with a bogey in the team event and shot 6-under-par 65 at Ted Makalena.
Paul Kimura and Ren Frias had a bogey-free 66 to finish second.
The teams of Brian Lee and Brett Komoto, Chase Bingham and Justin Chue, and Glenn Niitani and Jared Kato shared third place at 68.
The tournament was scheduled for 36 holes, but Saturday's opening round was canceled for Championship Flight because of the tsunami warning. The A and B Flights played their first round the previous weekend.
Alan Arakawa and Lyle Kawamata shot 65-70—135 to win A Flight by four shots. Buddy Silva and Charmelan Tolentino captured B Flight, also by four shots, at 79-74—153.
HSGA SEASON STARTS AT HILO MUNICIPAL
The Hawai'i State Junior Golf Association will open its tournament season Saturday at Hilo Municipal with the 14 & Under Junior Tour Series. The series was started three years ago to help prepare the HSJGA's younger members for the summer tournament series.
Last year's winners included Hilo's Christian "Pono" Yanagi, Shon Katahira and Taisei Negishi. All three are playing again.
Golf begins at 11:30 a.m. Saturday and 7 a.m. Sunday.
