The 8th annual Kirk Cashmere Jewish Film Festival starts with an award winner tonight and will go on to include several works from Israel, the United States and Canada.

The festival, presented by Temple Emanu-El and the Hono­lulu Academy of Arts, opens with filmmaker Lynn Roth introducing "The Little Traitor," winner of the 2008 award for best feature film at the Los Angeles Jewish Film Festival. Roth is expected to attend a pre-film reception at 6 p.m., and will remain for a Q&A session after the film. "The Little Traitor" is based on the Amos Oz novel "Panther in the Basement" and set in 1947, a few months before Israel becomes a state.

"The Little Traitor" begins tonight at 7:30, but be there at 6:30 p.m. for the reception. Wine and beer will be available for purchase from the Pavilion Cafe. Tickets are $8 general, $7 for seniors, students and military, and $5 for academy members.
