Police seek male suspect in 8th bank robbery of year

A man with a gun held up the Salt Lake branch of American Savings Bank yesterday, in the eighth bank robbery on O'ahu this year.

Police said the man entered the bank at 848 Lilikoi St. about 9:10 a.m., demanded money, showed that he had a gun and assaulted an employee before leaving.

He was last seen getting into a four-door compact car on Salt Lake Boulevard.

The robber is described as in his 20s to 30s, 5 feet 8 to 5 feet 10 and 120 pounds. He was wearing a camouflage baseball cap, blue dress shirt, khaki pants, white shoes and a blue mask.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 955-8300, or *CRIME on a cell phone.

Police earlier arrested two men believed responsible for five of this year's bank robberies. Michael Schturmgeist, 23, arrested March 2, is suspected of bank robberies on Feb. 16 and March 1. Ronald Manning, 49, was arrested in January on suspicion of three robberies.
