Historic preservation groups to gather at capitol tomorrow

Associated Press

More than 40 historic preservation organizations will be at the Hawaii Capitol tomorrow to raise awareness about preserving Hawaii’s heritage.

The groups are gathering for the eighth annual Historic Preservation Awareness Day, sponsored by the Historic Hawaii Foundation and the Legislature’s Heritage Caucus.
The groups are emphasizing preservation of historic sites, including Honolulu Hale, Tantalus Drive, Fort Kamehameha and Haleiwa residences.
Gov. Linda Lingle will deliver remarks about saving the state’s historic and cultural resources.
Heritage Caucus Chairwoman Cindy Evans says preserving history helps people gain a better understanding of past political, social and economic changes.
