Moped operator in critical condition after collision with truck in Kaneohe

Advertiser Staff

A 44-year-old man was critically injured last night when the moped he was operating crashed into the side of a pickup truck in Kaneohe.

The collision happened at about 8:10 at the intersection of Waikalua Road and Mahalani Street.
Police said the truck, operated by a 60-year-old woman, was headed east on Waikalua and turning left onto Mahalani.
The moped, headed west on Waikalua, slammed into the side of the truck.
The moped operator, who was not wearing a helmet, was taken to The Queen’s Medical Center in critical condition.
The driver of the truck was not injured.
Police said speed, alcohol or drugs were not factors in the truck driver’s actions. They said they had not yet determined whether the moped operator was under the influence.
