ANYTHING, ANYTIME

Local restaurateurs Ken and Cindy Wong closed their Banana Leaf Bistro in Market City (their Banana Leaf Pasta Café is still open in McCully Shopping Center) to make room for their latest culinary venture, the Anytime Café. The place looks the same on the inside — a chic cafeteria-style layout in warm tones — but the menu has undergone a makeover to include just about everything from pizza and burgers to baked spaghetti and pork chop sandwiches to seafood dumpling noodles in broth. The idea behind the lengthy, divergent menu is to offer diners whatever dishes they might be craving at anytime of the day — at reasonable prices (from $3.50 per dish) Makes sense to us.

CHEAP EATS

Shop (and eat) Till you drop

This weekend is the last chance to take advantage of Ala Moana Center's annual Shop a Le'a sales event. The whole mall chips in to give shoppers and diners good deals at various venues all at the same time. The big deal we don't want to miss out on? The Crack Seed Center's (949-7200) offer to give away a quarter of a pound of free crack seed for every pound purchased.

This is the last weekend to take part in the fundraiser. The following O'ahu restaurants are participating in this year's event: Big City Diner, Duke's Waikiki, Hiroshi Eurasion Tapas, J.J. Dolan's, Los Chaparros Mexican Restaurant, Subway Waipi'o, The Contemporary Museum Café, The Wedding Café, Tiki's Grill and Bar, and thirtyninehotel.
