College baseball: Fla. State player gets rare cycle; hits in order

Associated Press

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Florida State baseball coach Mike Martin says he doesn't remember anything like it.

Martin watched star outfielder Tyler Holt hit for the cycle in a 9-5 win Sunday over Maryland.

Holt singled in the first, doubled in the second, tripled in the third and slammed his fourth home run of the season in the fifth to finish off the cherished feat in order.

Martin, who has coached the Seminoles for 31 years of his half century in baseball, said he's seen several plays hit for the cycle, but couldn't recall one that went from single to home run in order.

Arizona Diamondbacks shortstop Stephen Drew was the last Seminole player to hit for the cycle and that was in 2004.
