Iolani School competing in National Science Bowl

Advertiser Staff

Iolani School is representing Hawai'i at the U.S. Department of Energy's 20th annual National Science Bowl in Washington.

In all, students from 68 high school teams and 37 middle school teams are participating in the three-day competition that ends Monday.

The students will be quizzed to determine their knowledge of biology, chemistry, earth science, physics, astronomy and math.

A number of trophies and prizes will be awarded, including an all-expense-paid research trip for the high school champion to study the ecosystems of Belize in Central America.

Lt. Gov. James "Duke" Aiona says the Science Bowl goes hand-in-hand with efforts to transform Hawai'i into a worldwide leader of clean energy security and sustainability.
