Hotel Hana Maui employees getting help from state

Associated Press

HONOLULU — The state Department of Labor and Industrial Relations has activated its Rapid Response Team to assist Hotel Hana Maui employees who will be out of work when the hotel ceases operations.

The workers were notified in January that they could lose their jobs because the 66-room hotel was being sold to Denver-based real estate investment and development company Amstar Group LLC.

The department said Monday that the Rapid Response Team plans to provide information on an array of available services for the affected workers.

They include skills assessment, individual counseling, career planning, employment development, occupational skills training, on-the-job training, entrepreneurial training, job-readiness training and adult education.
