Tennis: Prague Open to fold after this year's edition

Associated Press

PRAGUE — The Prague Open will not return to the WTA Tour schedule after this year's edition because of financial problems.

Tournament director Vladislav Savrda said Wednesday that organizers lost its major financial partner and will not be able to organize the event on clay at the Stvanice stadium.

Savrda said he has been negotiating the sale of the tournament with the WTA board of directors. Financial details were not given.

The last Prague Open is scheduled for July 12-18.

The WTA tour returned to the Czech capital after seven years in 2005, with Dinara Safina of Russia winning the first edition. Sybille Bammer of Austria won last year.
