Hawaii man who served as pimp for minor online sentenced to 5 years

A 22-year-old man who pleaded guilty to pimping for an underage girl on the Internet has been sentenced to five years in federal prison.

Bronson Iseri was originally charged with sex trafficking a 14- and 16-year-old girl on Craigslist but reached a plea agreement with prosecutors in which the charge involving the younger girl was dismissed.

Iseri could have been sentenced to 10 years behind bars but U.S. District Judge David Ezra noted the defendant's lack of a previous criminal record and the "substantial assistance" he has provided to police in the investigation of other cases in granting a sentence reduction.

Ezra said Iseri "was probably dazzled by the lifestyle and the potential to make a lot of money quickly" when he agreed to a request from the two young women to act as their pimp.

Defense lawyer Michael Green said Iseri didn't know how much to charge for their services and didn't know how to use Craigslist as a marketing tool. An older prostitute had suggested advertising on the online site, said Green.

"He's really a decent, decent young man," Green said.

Iseri told Ezra he had made "a really bad mistake, a bad decision" and wanted "to turn my life around."

Ezra called Iseri's crime "despicable" and said he wanted to fashion a sentence that would discourage others from similar conduct.

"A sentence of five years will suffice to send the right message," the judge said.

Iseri is also facing related charges in state court but records there indicate another plea agreement is being negotiated that would involve a prison term to be served concurrently with the federal sentence.
