Vacant East Hawaii seat filled on UH Board of Regents

Associated Press

HONOLULU — A retired bank executive has been named to the University of Hawaii Board of Regents.

Clifford C. Dias fills the East Hawaii seat left vacant by the resignation earlier this year of Harvey Tajiri.

Dias' interim appointment is subject to confirmation by the state Senate Committee on Higher Education during the next legislative session.

A native of the Big Island, Dias is a graduate of St. Joseph School in Hilo and the University of Portland.

Dias spent more than 20 years in commercial banking with a number of institutions, including those now known as Wells Fargo and Bank of America. He retired in 2006 after 11 years at OnPoint Community Credit Union.
