Isabella, Ethan most popular baby names in Hawaii last year

Hawaii parents followed a national trend last year when it came to naming their newborns.

The Social Security Administration said today the most chosen baby names in the Islands for 2009 were Ethan and Isabella.

Nationally, Isabella was No. 1 for girls and Jacob tops for boys, with Ethan second.

According to information obtained from Social Security card application data, 81 newborn girls were named Isabella in Hawaii last year and 85 boys were named Ethan.

Sophia (65), Mia (50), Ava (48) and Chloe (45) completed the top 5 for girls.

Among boys it was Noah (76), Jayden (64), Joshua (63) and Elijah (61).

As for the top Hawaiian names, 30 girls were named Malia, which tied for 15th place overall, while 34 boys were named Kai, which was 30th.
