Advertiser Staff

The 38th Honolulu Marathon will hold its walk-up early entry for Hawai'i residents on June 12-13 at Sports Authority at the Waikele Shopping Center.

Last year, the first time it was held at Waikele, more than 1,400 signed up the first day.

Registration for the Dec. 12 race will be from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. June 12; and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. June 13.

Early entry fee this year is $45.

The fee for local residents after early registration will be $95 until Nov. 5. Then registration closes until race week when it reopens at the expo (Hawaii Convention Center) on Dec. 8. The late fee will be $240.

Forms are available by self-addressed-stamped-envelope sent to the Honolulu Marathon office at 3435 Wai'alae Ave., Honolulu, HI 96816. Saturday, June 26, is the mail/fax deadline for early entry rate.

E-mail forms will be sent to 2009 finishers if valid e-mail addresses were provided to the Honolulu Marathon.

Roosevelt graduate Clarissa Chun won the bronze medal in the 105-pound division at the German Grand Prix on Sunday.

Chun, an Olympian and 2008 world champion, went 3-1 in the tournament. Her only loss came in the quarterfinals against 2008 Olympic champion Carol Huynh of Canada.

Chun, 28, is coming back from a shoulder injury suffered before last year's World Championships. She recently won the Pan American Championships in Mexico.
