Oahu Community School for Adults to hold commencement tonight

About 400 students of Oahu's seven community schools for adults will attend commencement ceremonies tonight at the Blaisdell Center Concert Hall.

The processional begins at 6:15.

Ukulele teacher Roy Sakuma will deliver the keynote address.

Mayor Mufi Hannemann, Board of Education member Carol Mon Lee and Assistant Schools Superintendent Daniel Hamada will offer welcome and congratulatory messages.

Also being honored will be Hawaii's Adult Education Teachers of the Year — Soon Ok Morimoto (Farrington), Lisa Yanagi (Kaimuki/Kaiser), Lawrence Chun (McKinley), Stuart Holloway (Moanalua/Aiea), Ronald Gutierrez (Wahiawa), Joyce Harada (Waipahu) and Ross Rasmussen (Windward).

Throughout the state, nearly 2,000 adults have completed requirements for a high school diploma this school year.

The statewide network of 11 community schools for adults provides a variety of programs including the high school diploma program, basic and secondary education, English language, workplace and family literacy and citizenship classes.
