The Hawaii Theatre Center will hold group auditions in June, July and August for its 2010-2011 student programs, which take place after school from September through May. No experience is necessary.

HAWAII THEATRE YOUNG ACTORS' ENSEMBLE (open to Oahu teens, ages 13 to18) is an intensive classical acting program led by HTC Education Director and multiple Po'okela Award-winning actress/director Eden-Lee Murray and will culminate in a full-scale production of Shakespeare's As You Like It at the Hawaii Theatre in May, 2011.

The program includes Master Classes from top players in the local/national theatre scene. In 2009-2010, Master Classes included a workshop in Method Acting from Anna Strasberg (director of the Strasberg Institute), Voice & Shakespeare from Terence Knapp, Stage Combat with Tony Pisculli, Introductory Mask Work with Paul Mitri, and TaKeTiNa with Deborah Masterson.

For the audition, students should prepare a monologue between 1 and 2 minutes long from any published play. They also should be prepared to participate in theatre games and some improvisation. Plan to stay for the full 2 hours.

HAWAII THEATRE JUNIOR ENSEMBLE (open to Oahu middle-schoolers, ages 10 to 12) is a new, introductory acting program led by HTC Education Director and multiple Po'okela Award-winning actress/director Eden-Lee Murray. The program will consist of theatre games, creative dramatics, improvisation and basic acting techniques, with an emphasis on creative collaboration as well as performance skills. The audition will involve theatre games, very basic improvisation and some cold reading; no prepared material is necessary.

HAWAII THEATRE APPRENTICE PROGRAM (open to Oahu teens, ages 13 to 18) is an opportunity for students interested in exploring careers in set design, lighting design, costume design, stage management or directing. In addition to participating in the Master Classes offered to the HTYAE members, apprentices are individually mentored by local professionals in their particular area of stagecraft, and allowed to work on the Student Matinee productions under the supervision of their mentors. Students should come prepared to be interviewed about their area of interest and why they would like to become an apprentice.
