HONOLULU Gov. Linda Lingle is congratulating Hawaii-born Nicole Scherzinger, who won a dancing competition on the television series "Dancing with the Stars."

Scherzinger and professional dancer Derek Hough were crowned champions Wednesday.

Lingle says the 31-year-old Scherzinger represented Hawaii with pride and showcased outstanding talent that can be found on each of the state's island.

The governor says Scherzinger exhibited a work ethic and genuine good nature throughout the intense competition.

Scherzinger is the lead singer of the Pussycat Dolls.

She was born in Hawaii but grew up in a Louisville, Ky. Her mother was a professional hula dancer.
