California guitar-man Rick Shea christens new Chinatown venue tonight

Singer/songwriter Rick Shea, a repeat performer in the Islands, will headline two performances this weekend on Oahu.

Shea, a solo and session player, has released several albums; his most recent is "Shelter Valley Blues." He toured as part of the Guilty Men with Dave Alvin, and has also played with Los Lobos, Rosie Flores and R.E.M.

See him at 8 p.m. tonight, Friday, May 28 at a new music space, The Venue-Bambu 2 (formerly Rred Elephant), 1144 Bethel St., along with Oahu producer/guitarist, Sean Thibideaux. Tickets are $25 plus applicable fees; 528-1144.

Surf 'n' Sea Presents The Rick Shea Band at 8 p.m. tomorrow, Saturday, May 29, in the Pikake Pavilion, Waimea Valley Park; 638-7766. This will be a dance party and concert. Tickets, $25, are available at Surf 'n' Sea, Haleiwa; 637-9887.

Special guest at both shows will be slack-key master Ledward Kaapana.
