-with over 10 bedrooms
-over 4,000 square feet
-over 10 acres of land
-on golf courses and private beaches.
-those in poverty as a whole average less than a person per room
-there are more "impoverished" households reporting over 1,000 square feet per person than there are reporting less than 400 square feet per person.
-a significant percentage of "impoverished" homes are rated a perfect 10 on both housing and neighborhood quality scales which rate all homes, rich and poor.
-home owners with bachelor's degrees and higher
-people who chose their current home because of the view
-the majority of them report their current home being better than their last
-people who have over 3 cars (it might be cheaper just to get a mercedes, but then who knows, they might have 3 mercedes)
In short, uh, yeah.
People should do all that they can before they come asking for me to do what I can. That's the bottom line.
The majority of people in poverty have either satellite or cable subscriptions. So then let me ask you.. if we give a welfare recipient $50, and that same month he spends $50 on a satellite tv bill, then did we just buy him food or HBO?
first of all, you cite a source 600 pages long and expect us to dissect it? it's almost as if you get your talking points from a think tank.
also, you cite anecdotal stories as if they're the norm. dude, you gotta wake up and smell the humanity. i went and visited a seriously impoverished area recently. let me assure you, there were no ten room houses, unless you count a series of shanties with tarp as "rooms." there were no flat screens, except for the flat screens keeping the bugs out. the views sucked, the cars were old; the nicest one i saw was a kia. and these people were extremely thankful for the hand-me-downs and donations that were being given.
but here's what really gets me, because honestly, i don't personally care what you or anyone in your party wants to do about poverty:
how the hell can you, and those like you, even dare to stand on a pedestal and call yourselves morally superior when you are the ones not practicing your own gospels?
