Wie vs Kono

Over the years, how many have the two famous Punahou students played in the same Golf tourneys locally or abroard much? Who has done better, score wise when they have played in same tourney?
The reason I ask is because it is obvious that both girls are extremely talented. But too it's rather obvious that they have both taken different paths with regard to their golfing careers.

is that your idea of a joke? Anybody can tell you that Sonny Kono was a singer & actor married to Cher in the 60's and early 70's....not a weight lifter!

Kono has an impressive short game, maybe better than Wie in that aspect of the game. But Wie has the edge in terms of being used to playing in the limelight.

Hello, hemajang.

Thank you for quoting Hawaiian Bud on Kono and Wie <<<... it is obvious that both girls are extremely talented. But too it's rather obvious that they have both taken different paths with regard to their golfing careers...>>>

Back when Michelle was in the 8th grade, she seemed to looking forward to being in the 9th grade so that she could play on Punahou's golf team. At that time, she was already a demonstrated golfing talent and I thought how unfair if she played for Punahou's golf team. I don't know how Michelle made the decision, but I was glad she opted out and helped keep Honolulu's interscholastic golf interscholastic.

In terms of final scores, Kono and Wie were competitive. However, on internal components of level of play, they were in different leagues so I was glad they took different paths toward their golfing careers. Stephanie needed time and coaching to develop her game. Michelle needed time and coaching to develop advanced elements of her game.

hemajang, thank you, too. for your comment <<<...Kono has an impressive short game, maybe better than Wie in that aspect of the game...>>>

I've only heard about Stephanie--I've never seen her play I'm glad to hear she has an impressive short game. She is the only Hawaii entrant still alive in the junior golf tournament in CA. With that short game, she could win the whole thing. We'll know in a day or two.

Unfortunately, Stephanie Kono lost to Mina Harigae 4 and 3 (down 4 holes with three holes to play).

Shame on me--I thought Carmel CC was in CA--its in NC.

I watched (TV) Vicky Hurst defeat Harigae 2 and 1. On the 16th hole with the match dormie, Vicky hit first and landed on the center of the green pin high. Mina went for the flag. Unfortunately the ball went through the green. On Mina's return shot, her ball ran a short distance past the hole. That was the match.

I stayed to watch Jenny Shin beat Alexandra Bodemann 2 and 1. In this match, Jenny was deadly hitting the fairways--she's a 13 year old girl who plays nervelessly.

I now want to watch the final tomorrow between Jenny and Vicky.
