A message from the publisher: Mahalo to all who supported us

Michael J. Fisch
Advertiser President and Publisher

Today's edition of The Honolulu Advertiser represents the last step in a four-year journey toward making The Honolulu Advertiser the best it can be.

This edition was printed entirely on the new presses at our Kapolei printing facility and represents four years of extensive planning and preparation by hundreds of vendors and employees who have given all they can to keep us the state's top source for news and advertising.

I would like to express my appreciation to each of them for helping achieve our goal of a world-class state-of-the-art printing facility in Hawai'i. The facility allows us to produce a quality newspaper for our readers and advertisers and also provides a clean, safe work environment for our employees.

Our parent corporation, Gannett Co., has provided the capital to make this $82 million investment possible, demonstrating its confidence in Hawai'i's future.

There are so many people who have made this project possible. I salute our employees, who have embraced the changes with gusto. I commend our labor unions for their support and willingness to provide us the flexibility to make the investment work. I thank the many professionals in the commercial real-estate sector and design and building trades who worked with us to locate a site and design and build the plant quickly. And I appreciate the work of our equipment manufacturers from around the globe who worked as a team to get it done — on time and under budget.

This first-class project started with our press manufacturer in Germany, and many others from around the world added insight and skills and joined a solid base of local companies to help us. We appreciate their many contributions and look forward to making the best of their contributions as we move forward in our world-class facility.

We're also very excited about being a part of the Kapolei community and, like everyone, have watched as this important second urban center on O'ahu has developed and grown. We will take our stewardship of that area seriously and look forward to being part of its growth and development in the decades to come.

In less than two years, The Honolulu Advertiser will celebrate its 150th year of serving the needs of Hawai'i. We've been chronicling Hawai'i's story for a long time and it's our intention to continue to be diligent, truthful, accurate and fair. We will use our new printing capabilities to reflect the beauty of the Islands, showcase the diversity of our cultures, to inform and educate.

As publisher of The Advertiser, I want to express my gratitude to our readers, advertisers and employees for their support and dedication to our success. My associates and I are dedicated to being Hawai'i's newspaper every day.

Mahalo for your support!
