REPEAT DISCOUNTS - NATIONAL
An ad of 5 or more inches, billed at the annual bulk contract rate or open rate and ordered in advance to run two or more times within a seven day period, earns a 25% discount off the second insertion and a 40% discount of the third and subsequent insertions. No copy changes are permitted on repeat insertions. Sunday insertions are not discounted.
MECHANICAL REQUIREMENTS
| A. | Minimum acceptable ad size is one column-inch: one column wide by one inch deep. |
| B. | We recommmend making advertisements as many inches deep as columns wide. |
| C. | ROP ads that exceed 19 inches are billed to the full page depth of 21 1/2 inches. Tabloid ads exceeding 11 inches in depth are billed at 13 inches. |
| D. | Half-tone screen required: 65-75 lines per inch. |
ELECTRONIC AD PROCEDURES
The Honolulu Advertiser is able to accept most electronic ads in PDF format or created on Macintosh-compatible systems. Since each ad and computer system is different, it is important that the computers, disks, methods and applications used by your clients are compatible with those used at The Honolulu Advertiser. Quark X-Press is the program used for building ads on Macintosh computers at The Honolulu Advertiser. If you submit an ad to the Newspaper on a disk and it requires any work (changes, corrections), make certain that it was built using Quark X-Press.
Any ad supplied electronically by diskette or through any other electronic transfer service must have a HARDCOPY, FAX proof or color key submitted with cropmarks, by deadline. This will be compared to the final proof of the ad.
If a camera-ready ad is submitted to The Honolulu Advertiser via electronic transfer system or diskette, and changes are desired after submission, then a new disk or electronic file, with the changes, should be supplied to replace the original. The Honolulu Advertiser will not take any responsibility for a change to any camera-ready ad which was not originally built by The Honolulu Advertiser.
Camera-ready electronic ads on disk
To be considered "camera-ready" the ad must be ready for extraction from the disk or system and be accompanied by a hard copy for comparison upon extraction. No work other than extraction will be done to a camera-ready ad. If an ad requires any other than extraction from the disk then a new corrected disk is required.
If a client wants to submit an ad camera-ready on disk, use of one of the followin software formats is required: PDF files, Quark X-Press, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Pagemaker, Macromedia Freehand or Multi Ad Creator.
One ad per disk please. Client MUST provide file name of the ad to be output and a corresponding hardcopy for comparison.
The Honolulu Advertiser can accommodate the following disk types: 3 1/2 inch floppy disk, Zip Drive, Jazz Drive, and 3 1/2 inch disk CD's

Please fax a hardcopy for reference to (808) 525-7423 or (808) 535-8528. For PDF files, please verify that fonts are embedded in the file and all color images are CMYK. Input resolution: 200 pixels per inch final size after scaling for grayscale. Tone range: Highlight dot between no less than 6%; optimum between 8% and 11%; shadow dot between 88% and 91%. 1200 pixels per inch maximum resolution for line art.
For optimum reproduction on our presses, a 65 to 75 LPI maximum halftone screen is necessary.

The following charges are for color, regardless of the size ad, per page in addition to the regular space rates.
Color plate charges are included. Color separation charges of $75 per hour are additional.
The Honolulu Advertiser uses standard Newspaper Association of America (NAA) 4-A ink colors (AAAA) in color advertising. Special mixes are available on request.
Up to three NAA-AAAA colors may be used. In times of heavy color use such as the year-end holiday weeks, The Honolulu Advertiser requires the use of standard Ad Pro NAA process color (cyan, magenta and yellow) to meet customer requests for two or three colors.
Color guides, composites or keys will be needed at The Honolulu Advertiser by no later than 3 p.m. on the day before scheduled publication. Please also have registration marks showing on negatives and veloxes.
Running heads and date line not required to appear on page.
Heat transfer color ink rates and information available upon request.
PREPRINTED INSERTS
Rates are agency commissionable and eligible for cash discount. A premium is charged for zoned circulation. Contact your sales executive for additional pricing information.
Linage does not apply towards volume contract.
60-day rate protection policy applies.
In co-op advertising programs using free-standing inserts, the following categories are subject to surcharge: retail, financial, travel, and automotive.
Maximum size for preprinted inserts is 10-1/2 inches by 13-1/2 inches. Prices quoted are for statewide distribution of full circulation.
Inserts need to be delivered to distribution facility 10 days prior to publication date. Deliver should be prepaid to News Building, 605 Kapiolani Blvd., Honolulu, Hawaii 96813. Attention: Mailroom Superintendent.
