| Aiea Naval Hospital, commissioned in 1942, served for seven years as the major military hospital in the area until the consolidation of military medical facilities at Tripler Army Hospital in 1949. The Aiea hospital was ordered closed down in 1949, which is when this photo was taken. The building today is the headquarters for the U.S. Marine Corps Forces Pacific at Camp Smith. |
