Sgt. Kris Kamalani is back at Fort Hood, Texas, after almost a year in Iraq. |
By Lorraine Freitas
Mahalo, Hawai'i, for your prayers and support!
My grandson, Sgt. Kristopher Kamalani, was deployed to Iraq on April 5, 2003, assigned to the 4th Infantry Divisions 1st Battalion, 67th Armored Regiment, and cross-attached to Company C, 2nd Battalion, 8th Infantry Regiment.
On March 24, 2004, after a one-year assignment in Iraq, he returned to American soil Fort Hood, Texas. His platoon had suffered one casualty.
However, in April, violence in Iraq escalated, with a record 170 military casualties and 10 times that amount in Iraqi casualties for the month.
A year ago, I asked for your prayers for Kris and his unit.
I'm asking you again to continue your thoughts and prayers for all our troops, and eventually, world peace.
Kris will be home in Honolulu June 22, for a month's vacation, and will try to see as many family and friends as he possibly can.
I feel so blessed to have him home, and I will feel further blessed to get him back in Honolulu.
Your prayers sustained Kris in Iraq and brought him home, safe and sound.
To all of Kris' benefactors, again, our family's deepest gratitude we could not have done it alone.

Schofield Barracks soldier Spc. Sinoe Orbe has been in Iraq since mid-January. |
By Mariko Wilson
This is Spc. Sinoe Orbe who is with the 40th Quarter Master Company, serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom. He deployed from Schofield Barracks in mid-January. I am extremely proud to have this amazing soldier in my life.
Since the day we met, he has brought nothing but smiles and laughs to my life. His ability to find the brighter side of every situation has made our time apart easier to bare.
Sinoe, I miss you terribly and I can't wait to celebrate your safe return home. Love always, Mariko

By Teresa Marie Abrego
Spc. Jesus Abrego is part of the 1st Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment. He joined the United States Army after graduation in 2001, and is proud to part of the Wolfhounds stationed at Schofield Barracks.
We were also married in 2001, and have been enjoying our first duty station in Hawai'i.
We are eagerly expecting our first child this July. Jesse is serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom. I am so proud of my soldier and I can't wait for him to come home to our new family. He is in my prayers every day.
I love and miss you very much, Jesse.

Sgt. David Gutierrez, wife Patricia, and sons Andrew, 6, and Jeremiah, 5 months, came to Hawaii in October 2001. Gutierrez, who grew up in San Jose, Calif., is in Iraq with the Wolfhounds of Company B, 1st Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment. |
By Patricia Gutierrez
This is my husband, Sgt. David Gutierrez of Bravo Company, 1-27 WOLFHOUNDS! He's stationed in Iraq, and we miss him terribly. Not only is he a wonderful father to Andrew, 6, and Jeremiah, 5 months, he is a terrific husband, a brave man and an outstanding soldier.
David has been in the Army for six years now and I'm proud to say that he is trustworthy and responsible. I know as long as my husband is there, his team is safe.
David grew up in San Jose, Calif., and we moved to beautiful Hawai'i in October 2001. We are very, very proud of you, Honey, and we anxiously await your safe return. God Bless you always with lots of aloha!
