FROM: Spc. Tadd Makaiwi and Staff Sgt. Samuel Makaiwi
“Hello to my family back home. I’m doing OK. Being in Iraq is an experience for all of us from Hawai‘i. I think we have an important mission with the U.S. Army in helping the Iraqi people get back on their feet. ... I’m fortunate to have my Dad with me here in Iraq on Father’s Day. I think everything that I am today is because of my Dad. Growing up, I always looked up to him and wanted to be in the military.”
Spc. Tadd Makaiwi

“Aloha to all the 'ohana and the people of Moloka'i, and to all the fathers, a happy Father’s Day. I’m very honored to be here in Iraq to serve my country and to help the Iraqi people so that they will be free from all terrorists. ... We’ve been working seven days a week, 12-hour shifts. The troops have been working really hard. ... I’m very honored and proud to have my son serving with me side by side. I thank everyone for their prayers for the soldiers.”
Staff Sgt. Samuel Makaiwi

Spc. Tadd Makaiwi, 30, left, and his father, Staff Sgt. Samuel Makaiwi, 55, are from Moloka'i. Both are with Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2nd Battalion, 299th Infantry of the Hawai'i National Guard.
