FROM: Staff Sgt. Clinton Haina
Age 42, Hilo, noncommissioned officer in charge, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2nd Battalion, 299th Infantry, Hawaiçi National Guard. Civilian job: certified nurse assistant at North Hawaiçi Community Hospital.

Thank you for all the support that we’ve been getting from home. It’s a morale booster for all the men. Without that support, I think it would be tougher. I know it has been tough on my family, especially my wife, raising my son. I missed my oldest son’s graduation from high school. Being a leader, you make sacrifices. I let another soldier go home for his daughter’s graduation. Coming to Iraq has taught us a lot of things about the living conditions here. From Iraq to Hawai‘i is totally different. We should be happy with what we’ve got.
