A monk seal swims amid the coral reefs of Kure Atoll, the northernmost coral atoll in the world. The monk seal, an endangered species, is one of only two mammals native to Hawai'i (the other is the hoary bat, or 'ope'ape'a) and lives primarily in the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands.
