Submit your tributes and condolences. (Comments may be edited for clarity and style. Please include your name and location.)
A Former Neighbor Remembers
I lived three houses down from Patsy in the 70's on Awamoi Street in Waipahu.
She was one of the smartest person I ever meet.
She will be sadly missed.

Condolences to the Family of the Late Patsy Mink
To the family of the late Patsy Mink:
Please accept my sincere condolences in the passing of Congresswoman Mink. Although I did not have the pleasure of personally meeting, Ms. Mink she was an individual that I have admired for most of my life.
Frankly, when I first began voting for her at the tender age of 18, I did so because that was who my parents [staunch working-class, unionized Democrats] supported and encouraged me to support as well. As the years progressed and I became more politically savvy, I myself chose to vote for Ms. Mink because of what she represented to me. To this day I remain in awe of the path that she has created for women and minorities in politics, the workplace, sports, and every aspect of life.
Yesterday when she passed, I explained to my 10-year-old female, part-Asian child how fortunate she was that Patsy Mink had lived in this world ahead of her. Please know that Ms. Mink, and the work that she has done, will live forever in the minds and hearts of those who knew her, and in the minds and hearts of our families to come. She has left a legacy like no other.
Me ke aloha pumehana,
Darlene (Costa) Yamase and family
Patsy Mink: A Heroine
I have four political pictures on my wall: John and Robert Kennedy, Bill Clinton and Patsy Mink. She was one of my heroes. Like the other three, her words inspired people and brought out the best in them. I don't expect to see someone of her huge intellect and total dedication in Hawai'i ever again.

Patsy Mink
It was a small thing, really - just a morning breakfast meeting. It was the only time she and I met. Yet, her focus and her generosity of spirit stand out - clearly. She was a real champion in a time when we are shy of heroes with grit. My condolences go out to her family and all those whose lives she touched, lives she changed.

We Will Miss Her
Aloha,
I was at work when I heard the sad news that Patsy Mink died. I feel really sorry for the family and for Hawai'i. To me, she did a lot of good things for Hawai'i and the United States. No one in the world can replace a woman like Patsy Mink, 'cause she was one out of a million. God bless her and her loving family.
With lots of aloha,

Kona Mourns the Loss of a Great Representative
To the family of Patsy Mink,
I send my love and deepest sympathy.
Kona, the Big Island, the state of Hawai'i and our nation lost a great leader. As a female attorney, I felt the loss personally. Patsy Mink was a true supporter of organizations that empower women and minorities. I am a commissioner on the Hawai'i State Commission of the Status of Women, and on the board of governors of the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association. She helped us in so many ways, both big and small.
For example, after Sept. 11, 2001, a Konawaena High School student, Kristin Kitaoka, spearheaded a Hawaiian print pillow project for families of the victims of 9/11. When we needed help in getting the pillows to D.C., Patsy Mink and her competent staff (including Joan Manke) were quick to assist us. Even though the Capitol was not receiving mail deliveries, Mink's chief of staff allowed us to send the packages to her home.
Patsy Mink never forgot her constituents in rural Kona. We would see her at parades, Kona Coffee Cultural Festival events; her presence in our community meant a lot. We know she never forgot the Big Island residents.
Thank you, Patsy, for your dedicated service. We love you and we miss you so much.

Mink: Condolences
The Arbaughs of Kahalu'u wish to extend our condolences to the Mink family. Patsy Mink was a true hero and should go down in history as a legend never to be forgotten. May the history books add her to the teachings of generations to come so all can learn how she made a difference and how they can, too.

Meeting Mink Memorable
I remember meeting the congresswomen as a young boy at my neighbor's home in Eugene, Ore., for coffee. I had no idea at the time who Rep. Mink was, but I could feel the magnitude of her personality by the enthusiasm of the people in the room.
I wish she represented my district here in the Mainland.
Aloha and Mahalo, Patsy
