Rep. Patsy Mink: Compassionate mother, leader of Hawai'i and Nation

Prayers of blessing and light go to her family and Hawai'i Nei.

Her impressive and compassionate lifetime career of bettering women's and children's lives throughout the country showcased what a woman can do no matter what race you are.

Patsy Mink's courage and vision against all odds is a standard of excellence that all women can aspire to and attain. She was a mother and leader for Hawai'i and the nation. And, even now,  in death, her spirit leads us to better conditions for all people, especially the poor and war-torn.

Her fearlessness and courageous voice fighting against war will be missed.  Let there be peace on earth and peace be with you,  Patsy Mink, representative of Hawai'i in Congress of the United States of America.

Tribute to Patsy

I worked for Patsy Mink in 2000.  I am honored to have known and worked for her.  I was constantly amazed by her strength and intelligence; she was a perfectionist, which was a testament to her commitment to her constituents.  She touched my life in ways that will forever be unparalleled.

Thanks, Patsy, for all the good times, for giving me my chance, and for teaching me what it means to be an effective politician.

Former Kane'ohe Bay Residents Remember

We were stationed on Kane'ohe Bay in 1983-87, and as you know she was on the City Council. I thought very highly of her and thought she was doing a great job. I wished our council were doing such a great job as she.

Many thanks to her for just being her herself. May God continue to bless the family and Hawai'i, place I love.

Our Deep Sympathy

To The Mink Family,

This is to express our deep sympathy on the passing away of Congresswoman Mink. I won't ever forget Congresswoman Mink. If not for her, my family would not still be here. I know that we're one of countless others she had helped. With all her good deeds, we know that she's already united with God.

Aloha,
The Clementes

A Great Asian-American Woman

I was born in Paia, Maui, in 1936. I graduated from Maui High School (Hamakuapoko), in 1954. I was always a few years behind Patsy Mink. She was a Democrat and I am a Republican. Our political affiliation may have been even further apart than our lives on the Island of Maui, however, our goal to promote Asians and
women to be involved politically through voter education and involvement in the party of your choice finally binds us together.

I wrote to Patsy Mink after 9-11 to inform her of our Asian American Coalition for Political Action I formed with another Asian American. My letter to her was buried for months in a building waiting to be cleared
because of the Amtrak scare. The letter was mailed in November of 2001 and I received a reply in May 2002. She apologized for the late reply and wished our efforts to promote Asians a success. I am sure she
had tons of mail delivered to her and the mere fact that she found my letter and replied to wish me well meant a lot to our Organization. I wish I had let her know that our organization is doing quite well and that we are being recognized by both parties.

My inspiration comes from a "sister" from Paia, Maui. Aloha! Heaven has gained an angel with "akamai" and "spunk".

For John and Wendy Mink

Mr. Mink and Wendy:

I can hardly believe what has happened. PTM was and still is a very special person. I'm still exceedingly grateful for the opportunities she afforded me.

Even today, nearly 20 years later, living in Ohio, I have kept up with Mrs. Mink's efforts to help people via newspaper articles and C-SPAN. She probably had no idea the number of lives she touched, nor the number of people who would watch her on TV and cheer her on.

My hope is that her bigger than life spirit will continue to burn in the hearts of the American people for many years to come.

Sincerely,
Anne Wickham

For Patsy

With such surprise and sadness I heard of your depart,
and though we've never met, somehow your passing touched my heart.

Like a strand of thread within a woven tapestry,
so deeply was your life entwined into our history.

Your voice before the Congress, with strength and with command,
to find the path of Justice you unfailingly would stand.

So here's a lei of words, although words can hardly tell
the legacy you've left behind – aloha and farewell.

Gratitude For Her Service

Thank you so much for all your many years in servicing the people of Hawai'i. We will never forget the mark you have made upon us.

With deepest sympathy,

A Tribute to Patsy Mink

We've lost another of Hawaii's very special people. I've personally followed her political career from the late '60's. Patsy was very influential in the course of Hawaii's growth. She sincerely cared for and spoke for the 'people of Hawai'i....not necessarily just the Democratic Party. She personally interviewed each of Hawai'i's Military Academy applicants that came across her desk and made her selection accordingly.

My son was selected for a nomination by her to the Military Academy at West Point in 2001, where he is now in his second year. We will all miss Mrs. Mink....and wish to extend to her family our sincere sympathies.

Aloha and Condolences

I'm so sad to here about Patsy Mink. I remember when she came to Frito Lay of Hawai'i to visit us about 15 years ago. She will surely be missed and I send my condolences to her family and to the people of Hawai'i.
