OKAZU, PLATE LUNCH AND TAKEOUT
The Islands are home to literally hundreds of small take-out shops, okazuya (Japanese delicatessens), plate-lunch places, manapua shops and bento stands. This is a mere sampling.

Kelvin Ro's deli/gourmet market/bakery/okazuya/fast-food shop is truly one of a kind in Honolulu. The take-out-only grill serves a wide-ranging menu from char siu pork to portobello burgers, kal bi to New York steak with the flair of fine cuisine (housemade sauces and gravies, mesclun green salads, brown rice available, focaccia bread sandwiches). The market next door sells everything you need to put a fabulous meal on the table without fuss: entrees to starches, salads to desserts in styles from ethnic to oh-so-local (kalua pork by the pound). The catering menu runs to more than seven pages.
