2004 'ILIMA AWARD WINNER - CASUAL DINING
As we define it for this guide, casual dining is a state of mind. It doesn't necessarily mean inexpensive, though it usually implies good value — getting as much or more than you paid for. It doesn't necessarily mean shorts and slippers, though it suggests a relaxed dress code.

Critic's Choice Restaurant
BLUWATER GRILL

Chef Bill Bruhl and front-of-the-house marketing whiz Tanya Phillips were pals at Ryan's Grill for years before departing in 2004 to create their own "American eclectic" bistro on Kuapa Pond in Hawa'i Kai. The result is, inevitably, a little Ryan-like — casual, friendly, busy with affordable prices and good contemporary food. Signatures include wok-seared moi, mango and guava ribs, curried crab cakes, salmon chowder and oven-roasted seafood dip.
