CASUAL DINING

As we define it for this guide, casual dining is a state of mind. It doesn't necessarily mean inexpensive, though it usually implies good value — getting as much or more than you paid for. It doesn't necessarily mean shorts and slippers, though it suggests a relaxed dress code.

KAKA'AKO KITCHEN

If the food wasn't served on styrofoam, this place would be just about perfect, offering upscale plate lunches made to order, excellent baked goods, quality coffee (important at breakfast time), juices that taste fresh-squeezed (also at breakfast) and pleasant indoor-outdoor dining. Favorites include the corned beef hash at breakfast, the loco moco at lunch, anything from the bakery case, quick stir-fry or grilled specials for dinner.
