CHINESE

All the major cuisines are represented in Hawai'i, though, of course, Asian and Southeast Asian restaurants are the most common. Here, we've selected a representative sample. (More Asian and Southeast Asian restaurants can be found in the chapters on dim sum, noodles, sushi bars, izakaya, takeout and yakiniku.)

HELEN'S CHINESE RESTAURANT

Helen and Daniel Lau "retired" from the restaurant business after owning two popular eateries — and then opened this tiny, 30-seat spot featuring Hong Kong home-style cooking. Try the duck won ton, kai see mein and "Grandma-style" ma po tofu.
