  MEDITERRANEAN, INDIAN AND MIDDLE EASTERN

While the range of international restaurants in Hawai'i may be narrow, the number of ethnic restaurants is very large. Most of these are family-run operations where the prices are right, the servings are ample and the fuss is minimal.

India Cafe

The only place on O'ahu to find South Indian dosas (thin, pancake-like breads made of fermented, stone-ground rice and lentils), this easygoing cafe, owned by the Segaran family, does them Malaysian-style. It's hard to choose between the various fiery curries of vegetables, lamb or shrimp, and vegetarians will be just as hard-pressed to decide considering the many choices available to them. You can even get sweet dosas — sprinkled with sugar or spread with coconut jam (kaya) — washing them down with "pulled" tea or milk-coffee.
