  BAKERIES

Take a look around any interisland airport terminal and you'll see folks toting grease-stained bakery boxes tied with string or suspended in plastic bags. We just love our baked goods and we love to give them as gifts. Here are some of our favorite O'ahu bakeries, with their specialties.

Champion Malasadas

Joc Miw, who came to Hawai'i from Macau, where Portuguese influence was once strong, says the secret of a great malasada is giving the dough a little time to rest. Whatever it is, we think his light, airy pastries are worth every fat- and sugar-laden calorie. Champion, strictly a take-out place, also serves hot cross buns year-round and a full line of other pastries.
