  BAKERIES

Take a look around any interisland airport terminal and you'll see folks toting grease-stained bakery boxes tied with string or suspended in plastic bags. We just love our baked goods and we love to give them as gifts. Here are some of our favorite O'ahu bakeries, with their specialties.

Leonard's Bakery

For generations of Islanders, Leonard's has been a sugar-coated mecca. Founded by Frank Leonard Rego in 1952, and still operated by the Rego family, the bakery began making traditional Portuguese confections the following year, at the suggestion of Margaret Rego. The malasadas were a hit, and the rest is grease-stained history. Pick up a loaf of pao doce (Portuguese sweet bread) while you're there.
